Jesse Abraham Arthur McCartney (born April 9, 1987) is an American pop singer and actor. Starting out at age 12 in the boyband Dream Street from 1999-2002, McCartney decided to go solo after the platinum recording band decided to split.
In 2003, McCartney released a first solo EP JMac which had moderate success in the US.
His follow up was the album Beautiful Soul released in 2004, which went 2x platinum in the US alone. Next up was a live CD from his Beautiful Soul Tour in 2005 and his sophomore album Right Where You Want Me in 2006, for which he co-wrote the majority of the songs. His third studio album, titled Departure, features the hit single Leavin’ and How Do You Sleep?.
McCartney re-released Departure on April 7, 2009. The re-release, Departure: Recharged, featured 4 new songs, Body Language, Oxygen, Crash & Burn and In My Veins. The re-release also features a remix of How Do You Sleep? with rapper/actor Ludacris. The third single from the album was released from the re-release and was the remix of How Do You Sleep?. It was much more successful than the second single, reaching #11 on the Hot 100, The fourth and final single from the album was also released from the re-release and was a new version of Body Language featuring T-Pain. The single has peaked at #12 on the Billboard Dance/Club Songs.
In addition to his music career, McCartney took up acting in the WB original series Summerland which lasted 2 seasons. McCartney’s follow up in the acting world comes with the theatrical release of the anticipated film Keith in late 2007. In 2009, McCartney signed on to play a laid back and goofy college freshman athlete who rushes a fraternity in the ABC Family series GRΣΣK.
