Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc
As she came riding through the dark
No moon to keep her armor bright
No man to get her through this dark and smoky night

she has a lovely voice but cannot match the master - sorry - but Cohen is the only one who can sing this....

Brilliant..........and the words do work for me. The story telling on most of his albums are very taut, often ironic and usually very relevant..........also that voice.......

This is my all-time favourite Cohen song and the one I stole my Last identity from (sadly mistaken sometimes for another identity entirely :) It's such a deep meditation on the utter self-immolation of love, the glorious flame and the terrible moment when only the ashes are left.

This song always gave me the chills when I would hear it. There is something simply fascinating about the arrangement and the images it evokes. Jennifer's vocals are clean and superb. Leonard's are haunting. One of my all time favorites!
