Smile… It’s impossible not to when listening to Jeffrey Joslin’s music. And that’s exactly what he wants you to do, because that’s all he has set out to do himself.
A former high school athlete, he signed a full scholarship with Charleston Southern University in South Carolina to play quarterback, but midway through the semester he seemed to have lost his smile. Fortunately, he found it in an old familiar place…a childhood love of art and music. In a whirlwind of speculation and decision-making he decided to give up his scholarship in hopes of finding his smile in the thing he does best, making music.
He transferred to Middle Tennessee State University in 2005 to study Recording Production, where he learned to further his love for songwriting, production, and singing. His journey alongside financial hardship and student loans fought feverishly to strip him of his smile, but he found it once again in his musical roots. Midway through his 2008 school year he put a name with the sounds that seem to resonate so clearly in his mind. As a child he remembered car rides with his grandfather to the beach listening to the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Frankie Valli, The Temptaions, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, The Beach Boys and other classics of that era, but it wasn’t until that year that he realized the names and faces behind those songs. Once he pinpointed those influences, it was time to dig in deep.
