The Jazz Voices vocal ensemble was founded by jazz singer Ágnes Lakatos in 2000.

The founding members of the ensemble (18 singers) were students of jazz singing at the Ferenc Erkel Music School and Jazz Conservatory and although some members have since joined ‘from the outside’, this musical medium remains the choir’s base.

In the first couple of years following its foundation Jazz Voices had only performed at various Hungarian festivals. Its first international endeavour was at the 2004 Cantata Mundi festival and competition in Olomouc, Czech Republic, where the choir won a gold medal in the jazz category. Just as in the October of 2005 in Riva del Garda, Italy, where the choir won gold again in the “In… canto sul Garda” festival and competition.

Jazz Voices is to record its first album produced by BMM publishing in the beginning of May 2006. The album will contain the best of the choir’s repertoire of contemporary Hungarian jazz.
