Biography

Jaytee Minton is an acoustic singer/songwriter presently based in NW Ohio. Her lyrics lean towards themes of self-introspection and focus on positive thinking. She combines fingerstyle picking with jangly guitar strumming and lilting vocals. Often citing her influences as Ann & Nancy Wilson (Heart), Steve Perry (Journey) and Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac), her music falls somewhere between rock and country.

She was raised in the suburbs of a small college town. Her father was a college professor and her mother a homemaker and watercolor artist. Jaytee began folk and classical guitar lessons at age 6, continuing until joining her first band at age 15. She delayed college, choosing instead to focus on her music career and is a veteran of several bands in the OH-MI-IN tri-state area. There was a brief stint in Los Angeles, where she attended the VIT Vocal program at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA before returning to Ohio to pursue a degree in Graphic Design with electives in music theory, composition and recording techniques. When asked why she studied art rather than music, she revealed ulterior motives: the ability to support oneself while following her dream and to develop her self-promotion abilities.

After years of singing increasingly heavy music, Jaytee took a hiatus from the music industry in the early part of the new millenium, during which she began writing the softer, more acoustic songs that will become “Trace of Myself”. In 2006, she put her entire life on hold to care for her elderly parents. Following their deaths in 2006, she took some time off to regroup and rediscovered her vision as an artist.

Jaytee is a completely DIY musician, preferring to record everything but the drums herself—including bass lines and symphonic treatments—using Cubase Studio 4 on her home Mac-based studio system. In addition to commercial crossover rock songs, Jaytee composes chamber orchestral pieces and dabbles in MIDI programming.

She is currently finishing her upcoming album “Trace of Myself” and is auditioning musicians for a backup band with plans to hit the road in support of the album next spring.
