He was also the drummer for the band Phantom Planet until his career in Hollywood dragged him away from that venture. He continues to compose musical pieces, which are sometimes used in television shows and films such as the song California (which appeared in the O.C. and the movie Orange County), and is currently playing music under the band name Coconut Records.
