About this album

This is the first album that Janis put her amazing vocals on and was released in 1967; she doesn’t even have top billing as she is part of Big Brother And The Holding Company and does not take lead vocals on all tracks. If you listen to this version of Down on Me, you can hear that Janice’s vocals are much clearer with less of that husk she is reknowned for. In her biography of Janice, Myra Friedman stated that by the time they got around to recording Jance, she was at half her power vocally!!

Big Brother And The Holding Company:

Peter Albin - Bass
David Getz - Drums
James Gurley - Guitar
Sam Andrew - guitar
Janis Joplin - Vocal

There are some great tracks on this album though; including Catapillar, who’s lyrics have to be heard to be believed and includes the lines, I’m an Abominable Snowman; Calling for your Love…

Track Listing:

Bye Bye Baby
Easy Rider

Call On Me
