About this album

“Dream Street” is the second studio album by American recording artist Janet Jackson, released on October 23, 1984. More Pop than her debut album’s “bubblegum soul” feel, the album wasn’t the runaway success that Janet’s father Joseph thought it would be. The album became a modest success, peaking at number #19 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number 147 on the Billboard 200 in 1984. Today, this is Jackson’s rarest album and is much sought after by fans, though it is still available as an expensive Japanese import. The album did have one modest hit for Jackson, the Top 10 R&B chart hit, “Don’t Stand Another Chance”, produced by brother Marlon which peaked at #9. Also, the video for the song “Dream Street”, her first music video, was shot during the shooting of the TV show Fame. The albums’ other singles include “Two to the Power of Love” (#83 UK Singles Chart & #7 South African Sales Chart), and “Fast Girls” (#40
U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart).

This would be the last of Jackson’s pre-stardom albums. She would break out of her squeaky-clean sounds with her Control album in 1986.

After many years of being unavailable, the album was made available to iTunes on May 15, 2007. Physical copies of the album are out of print, thus very rare, and especially hard to find in the United States.
