James - Tomorrow
23 Apr 2007, 00:16 by GrouchoMarx22Sat 21 Apr – James, The Twang
Having seen James on their ‘Pleased To Meet You' tour, it was great to hear of their reformation back in January. First place for their comeback gig? Surprisingly, it wasn’t to be their hometown of Manchester. It would be the Saturday 21st in Glasgow at the Carling Academy. However, tickets sold-out for all dates in record time and an additional date was added… Friday the 20th. Now, I was under the impression that if a band was going to add extra dates they should at least arrange for them to be played after the original dates! Especially for a comeback gig! Ah well, I suppose it would be ironic that since I saw them play their second “last-ever” gig back in December 2001, that I would see their second “comeback” gig in Glasgow.
The Twang were the support and sadly they were already on stage by the time we got there. I like The Twang. They really do have a bit of a Happy Mondays mixed with Kasabian funk about them. …
25 Jan 2007, 20:52 by longwayroundIn 2001, Kate and I made a big mistake: we bought tickets to see Depeche Mode at what was then the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester. It's not that we dislike them, it's just that we consequently did not have enough money to see James perform one week later at the same venue.
Ordinarily this would not be an issue. After all, James would perform in their home town again.
Watching BBC NorthWest Tonight on the evening of 7th December 2001, a week after we had seen Depeche Mode, we saw the flaw in our plan. Tim Booth was leaving the band he had fronted for eighteen years or so. Kate and I had spent years failing to see James. I had caught them on their 1992 acoustic tour, when they avoided manchester and instead played a fine set at the Town and Country Club in Leeds. Kate had completely missed out on them live.
We were, to say the least, annoyed. Ever since the release of Laid in 1994, James had been my favourite band-that-actually-does-any-work (Ian Brown and John Squire…
21 Nov 2006, 14:39 by covfanI did this a couple of months ago on my myspace blog so I thought it would be a good idea to stick it here:
1: A Design for Life
I could have chosen any number of Manic Street Preachers songs (They are my favourite band of all time) but this song is the ultimate in brilliance. It's amazing to think it's 10 years old. The voice, the music, the lyrics all perfect. The best song ever written.
This is one of those songs you hear for the first time and kind of ignore it, yet on repeat listens it just sounds better and better. This song probably has one of the most personal lines in a song that means a lot to me "Cant catch love with a net or a gun".
This is one of those songs where you have to be in the mood to listen to, but when you are it speaks volumes to you. Fantastic lyrics and fantastic music combined with the most famous love story of all time with a great atmospheric video creates one of my favourite songs ever.

3 Nine Inch Nails
5 Modest Mouse
6 Sufjan Stevens
9 The Flaming Lips
10 The Shins
Now answer the questions according to the numbers:
- What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
One day, I was listening to KEXP and heard Casimir Pulaski Day on the radio. I was impressed, but I didn't connect with it right away. I think it took almost all my friends talking about how amazing the album Illinois was. I ended up downloading it, then buying it, and I haven't stopped listening to it yet.
- What is your favorite album of 2?
The album that got me into the Doves was Some Cities. I had never even heard of them before I listened to that album. I was actually at this record store in Seattle with my friend and he told me to stand at a listening booth and listen to the album.
- What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?
Picking a single lyric from Issac Brock is not an easy task…
