  • James Live in Seattle, October 2010

Sat 9 Oct – James, Ed Harcourt

I never thought I'd get to see James live. Not only had they officially broken up a few years ago, but even before that they had very little to do with the US in terms of promotion and touring, so I was thrilled to see that they were coming to town. I only have one friend that has really shared a love of that band with me, and I tried to get her to fly in from out of state to see the show with me, but it just wasn't going to work out logistically and financially. I did have one other friend that was going to the show, but for some reason I kind of felt like going alone, which is actually very unlike me. I suppose it's because James has always been a band that was (with that one exception) pretty much just mine, as far as my friends were concerned, and so I felt like it was more appropriate to be solo for the concert as well. Considering what a wonderful experience I had that night, I think I probably made the right decision.

    Sat 9 Oct – James

i've been waiting 18 years to see James live (even thought about a ticket to the UK for the 'farewell' concert) and this show pretty much fulfilled all expectations. the encore of Tomorrow, Sometimes and Gold Mother killed me.

without a doubt, one of the better concerts i've seen.

Ten kawałek poderwał mnie do nocnego lotu. Lał deszcz, pół Polski zalało a ja... pobiegłem w strugach deszczu słuchając tego niewiarygodnego utworu. Nawet nie zauważyłem ile razy zagrał i ile przebiegłem. Druga nad ranem, światła miasta i ...

  • Frankenmix 9.0; a year in the life

I was inspired by A requiem for the mix tape to post my entries for Frankenmix; a livejournal based mix tape project. I am posting these to prove that the delicate art of mix tapes is far from extinction. There are still people who painstakingly rearrange songs and take hours to decide which songs to use (or in my case for Frankenmix 13.0, weeks), even if they create the mix on the computer.

  • James with The Twang - Glasgow Carling Academy 21/04/2007

Sat 21 Apr – James, The Twang

Having seen James on their ‘Pleased To Meet You' tour, it was great to hear of their reformation back in January. First place for their comeback gig? Surprisingly, it wasn’t to be their hometown of Manchester. It would be the Saturday 21st in Glasgow at the Carling Academy. However, tickets sold-out for all dates in record time and an additional date was added… Friday the 20th. Now, I was under the impression that if a band was going to add extra dates they should at least arrange for them to be played after the original dates! Especially for a comeback gig! Ah well, I suppose it would be ironic that since I saw them play their second “last-ever” gig back in December 2001, that I would see their second “comeback” gig in Glasgow.

The Twang were the support and sadly they were already on stage by the time we got there. I like The Twang. They really do have a bit of a Happy Mondays mixed with Kasabian funk about them. …
