There are two musicians named James Murphy.

1) James Franklin Murphy (July 30th, 1969, Portsmouth, Virginia USA) is an American guitarist and Producer. He is well-known for his solo contributions to various bands (Death, Obituary, Testament, Konkhra, Cancer) as well as works released under his own name and by a band he founded named Disincarnate. He has also contributed lessons to Guitar Player magazine. Murphy was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour in 2001, but had surgery and has recovered.

In addition to playing guitar, James F. Murphy is a prolific Producer, Recording Engineer, and Mixer & Mastering Engineer, operating primarily from his own facility, SafeHouse Production, and has produced and/or mixed/mastered albums by many noted artists worldwide, including Abigail Williams, LaZarus A.D., DAATH, Aborted, Burning Human, System Divide, World Under Blood, SWWAATS, Sigh, Rise, Konkhra, Augury, Swashbuckle, Novembers Doom, Alestorm, Thine Eyes Bleed, Steve Smith, Stu Hamm, Rick Derringer, Mogg/Way, Victor Wooten, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine, AM Conspiracy, The Destro, Denial Machine, Artension, John West, and many more.

2) James Murphy (born 1970, raised in Princeton Junction, New Jersey) is a musician, producer, deejay, and co-founder of dance-punk label Dfa Records. His most well-known musical project is LCD Soundsystem, who first gained attention with its first single, “Losing My Edge”, in 2002 before releasing a self-titled album in February 2005 to critical acclaim and top 20 success in the UK.
