Version 5

James wrote “Get Down Jaco” while living with Jaco Pastorius on Jones Street in the village.
An interesting era to say the least. There was a knock on the door and Jaco motioned James to see who it was. When James opened the door there was Paul Butterfield fresh out of the hospital holding a bottle of Four Roses in the air. The bottle was half empty or half full. One or the other so the story goes.

Although it has been said that James idolizes Bob Gelorf for his humanitarian accomplishments James claims Jaco was a great humanitarian. Stating Jaco would walk around the city for days upon end just hugging homeless people. He would also gesture to them to wait where they were. He would then go to the nearest store buy them something to eat and walk back to them to give them what he bought.

Jaco would get up out of bed in the morning with his intentions of walking around the city in search of people in need of food. James said I’d like to see some other Rock Stars do that.
