Biography

Jakob Freely is an acoustic brother duo (Dave Huffman/Bobby Huffman) hailing from different parts of the Midwest (Ohio/Indiana). Their upbeat acoustic pop sound, that is focused on the “rhythm and feel of the song” as Dave puts it, is sure to make you move your feet. The “Freely” style is rather carefree and aloof so the boys warn everyone that attends a JF show not to take themselves too seriously or they could find themselves on the receiving end of a spur of the moment song specifically about them. In other words, Jakob Freely loves hecklers. The brothers draw on influences such as Guster, O.A.R., Sublime and Jimmies Chicken Shack for their songwriting, but some say a Jakob Freely live show is reminiscent of the Barenaked Ladies. “I think it’s because we goof off and do some hip-hop covers and make fun of each other.” Dave says. “We’re an originals focused group, and we love playing out songs, but we’ll cover anything from Tupac to Britney Spears.”

So far, Jakob Freely has had a nice start in 2005 with the successful first year of their very own festival, aptly titled, FreelyFest and the release of their debut studio album that has been met with great reviews. On their self-titled disc, JakobFreely, the boys explore a more upbeat acoustic “pop” sound mostly uncharacteristic of singer/songwriters. Dave explains, “The songs on this album, with the exception of a couple, aren’t very deep or complicated.
