Born in Oxford, England, on 26 January 1945, Jacqueline du Pré was the second child of Derek and Iris du Pré. Derek du Pré was born in Jersey, where her family had lived for generations.   • She was definitely among the greatest cellists of the last century. I don't even listen to that much classical, but her renditions of the Cello Suites in particular are incredible. You can sense her connection to the instrument. It's horrible and cruel how nature took it away from her as well.
