About this album

For those who are confused :)

Original Release Date: May 7, 2002
Label: Silverwolf
This is “Jacky Jack” White with the Carter Family, not Jack White of the Stripes fame

This albums historic significance is that it is the last recording by the amazing Carter Sisters, Helen, and Anita, minus June. Because of that, this album is much more in line with the alternative/indie country-roots-rock movement than the “I own a new gas-guzzling off-road pick-up truck even though I work in an office and live in the suburbs” Contemporary Country.

It doesn’t rock out like the White Stripes, or devastate you like a Johnny Cash cover can. It is however worth checking out, for a taste of the origins of Rock and Blues and so on., and the sheer beauty of the Carter Sisters.

Curiously enough, “Jacky Jack” is supposedly a huge Brian Jones fan, so rock is influencing country right back.

they only put this here because no one knows who this guy is. this is a shameful way to force your music into the people who dont want it.

Definitive :) This is "Jacky Jack" White with the Carter Family - He is an award-winning singer-songwriter in his own right;, you've probably heard a cover or two of one of his songs, since he's been a popular songwriter on-and-off for a couple of decades. And the Carter Sisters, of course, are dynamite -- traditional folk/country from back when Country Music was about rebels, not corporate crap. This album "Southern Songbook" is an historic recording in that it is apparently the last recording by the amazing Carter Sisters, Helen, and Anita, minus June.

This is really annoying because if you listen to white stripes radio you suddenly get the odd country hit from jack white who is NOT white stripes jack white. Come on, you should have problems like this nailed down!
