Biography
Jack Dangers (born John Corrigan, 1965, Swindon, UK) is an electronic musician, DJ, producer/remixer best known for his work as Meat Beat Manifesto. He is often credited as the founder of drum n bass from his Helter Skelter/ Radio Babylon single.
Prior to founding Meat Beat Manifesto in 1987, both Jack Dangers and Jonny Stephens were members of a short-lived group called Perennial Divide. While Stephens remained a member of MBM for several years, Jack Dangers is the sole person credited on all releases.
Meat Beat Manifesto began on SweatBox records and was later picked up by PIAS (Play It Again Sam), licensed by Chicago’s Wax Trax Records (home to Ministry, RevCo, Thrill Kill Kult and all other Industrial ingredients) and later distributed by Mute.
MBM’s music has surfaced into mainstream ears from the soundtrack of The Matrix to Mitsubishi Car Commercials to The theme of Howard Stern’s morning show. His remixes and production prowess have tweaked the likes of David Bowie, David Byrne of Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, EBN, Public Enemy, MC 900 Ft Jesus, The Young Gods, Nine Inch Nails, Empirion, The Orb, The Shamen, Gus Gus, Boom Boom Satellites and more.
Parallel to his later output as Meat Beat Manifesto, Dangers began to release eponymous albums that explored more esoteric musical ground. The first few Jack Dangers releases, titled Sounds of the 20th Century and Tape Music, contained musique concréte composed of field recordings and obscure samples.
