Jørgen Karlstrøm is a norwegian contemporary classical composer. He got his education at the Norwegian Academy of Music Oslo, Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, and the Grieg Academy in Bergen.

He has written music for numerous ensembles and musicians, including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Sinfonietta, and the Arditti quartet. Several well known conductors have played his music, such as Christian Lindberg, Pierre-André Valade, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Rolf Gupta.

His influences range from the french school of spectral music, via italian composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino and Luigi Nono, to representatives of the music concrete intrumentale tradition in Germany such as Helmut Lachenmann, and later Swiss/Austrian composer Beat Furrer.

Several of his works include electronic elements where other inspirations become apparent, such as electronic artists Ryoji Ikead and Venetian Snares.
