Jóhann Jóhannsson is an Icelandic-born musician, composer and producer. Jóhann´s stately, slow-building and hauntingly melodic music, which frequently combines electronics with classical orchestrations, has been quietly bewitching listeners since he released his first solo record Englabörn in 2002 on the well respected British label Touch. The record was re-released in 2007 by 4AD, by which time its reputation had grown as an influential recording in the burgeoning field that has been variously called post-classsical or neo-classical.
Jóhann founded the Apparat Organ Quartet in 1999, who released one record in 2002 and have played various European festivals to great acclaim. Jóhann is also an award-winning film composer with 8 international feature film credits to his name as well as a composer for theater and contemporary dance. He founded the art organization/record label/think tank Kitchen Motors in 1999 with Kira Kira and Hilmar Jensson. He is a prolific collaborator, having worked and performed with artists such as Marc Almond (Stranger Things album), Barry Adamson and Pan Sonic, The Hafler Trio, Jaki Liebezeit, Laetitia Sadier, David Tibet, Baby Dee, Larsen and many more.

Far and away the most affecting & innovative new music being created at the moment anywhere, imho . His orchestral arrangements for cello & keyboards can literally send me to another time, another place. I play his sublime music endlessly in my car as I drive...I often find myself sitting in the car outside my hous at night, waiting for a song to end before i turn off the engine & go inside. Odi et Amo must be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded...if not tTHE most beautiful. I was lucky enough to briefly say hello to Jóhann & shake his hand befor his gig in Dublin in July 2008. The highlight of my year!
