It’d be easy to slot Isaac Hoskins into the bin of Red Dirt Music that’s scattered across Texas and the rest of the world these days. As musicians of all kinds, the punks, funksters, neo-hippies and even the goth kids begin to look back to the beginnings of American, and ‘Americana’ music for purchase and inspiration, seems like anyone can toss an acoustic guitar into their mix and feel more organic about things.

But Isaac stands out just a bit. There’s a sense of familiarity in this music, and the words behind it that make you think it could be mebbe not about you, but about your best friend, or that guy you’ve worked beside for a few years now.
Isaac is one of Those Denton Musicians, too, just so’s yeh know. Surrounded by some of the most underrated, brightest musicians/secrets in Texas, it’s no wonder that “Half Empty” is more than just a hand-full of super-guests on another singer-songwriter album. All of these folks on this album know each other, eat and drink with each other, love and fight, too. And it comes thru in the confidence behind each of these songs; in the sadness that sucks into love, in the longing of staring down a half-empty glass, in the voice that says “i’ve had enough! (unless you can give me just a little more, baby…).

You can find Issac online with his band The Heelers, ( ).

Some nights yeh might see his old jeep parked out over at Dan’s Silver Leaf, so if you need a reason to stop in, there it is.
