Daedalus, a skilled craftsmen in exile in Crete, fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son, Icarus, to escape prison walls. Before they took off from the island, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, or too close to the sea.
