About this album

Ghost on Ghost is the fifth full-length studio album by Sam Beam’s Iron & Wine, released April 16, 2013. The album’s title is taken from the lyrics of “Grace for Saints and Ramblers” and the cover is taken from photographer Barbara Crane’s series “Private Views.”
Ghost on Ghost exhibits jazz and pop influences and contains a more relaxed style and approach in comparison to Sam Beam’s last two albums, which he felt contained an “anxious tension” he wanted to move away from.

Great album, The Desert Babbler might be my favorite IW song of all time (tied with Naked As We Come)

This is the album that should have followed The Shepherds Dog. Great from start to finish!

This is one of those albums that you played in the background and then find yourself can't help playing it again and again.

Why so much hate for this album? I thought it was very good.

Pretty disappointing opening song(s). So happy that I continued listening to discover the gems that came after.

Like every other recent Iron & Wine album, on first listen I was a bit disappointed and didn't really pick out any songs as really good, but now every individual song I listen to is great! Especially like Grass Widows and Lovers' Revolution so far...

Here's my review: http://inyourspeakers.com/content/review/207-iron-wine-ghost-on-ghost-04172013 I liked some things about it, but I don't think he's playing to his strengths here :(

The first genuinely lovely day of the year, Ghost on Ghost sounds perfect in the early evening as we contemplate a beer garden.

I think it's an amazing album, I love that he's willing to try different sounds. It grows on you, I promise.

A pity. You can do so much better than this, Sam.

Yep unfortunately, it is. I was so afraid to listen to this, because I heard a new single like a month ago and I was bored with it... now that I have heard "Ghost on Ghost", I am so sad and I just can't believe where this is going. I will be surprised if anyone "gets" into his music with this record or any of the singles. I will go back to old Sam.

    Clearly his most unimpressive release.
