The better the secret, the harder it is to keep it to yourself. Ingrid Olavas debut album comes after a long period as one of Norway’s best kept pop secrets. With only a demo to show for, she’s already played all the biggest festivals, been interviewed everywhere and has performed with several other artists and bands. JULIETS WISHES is the sound of a soloartist who has tested her songs from the stage and then let them find their true form in the recording studio.

- But at the same time it felt almost like a miracle to suddenly realize, surprised and almost blushing, that someone could actually like these stubborn songs of mine.
All the songs on JULIETS WISHES are, with the exception of the intense cover of Bob Dylans ”It’s allright, Ma (I’m only bleeding)”, written by Olava. Hers are songs about gorgeous disasters. JULIETS WISHES is inhabited by people who never forget that darkness hides behind every moment of happiness, and who have come to terms with each other and love almost as a necessary evil. Her first single ONLY JUST BEGUN tells of the early days of a relationship, but might as well have been the send-off for a fight to the death. On JULIETS WISHES, pop music is seductive and dangerous at the same time.
The songs can linger over briefer moments, as for instance in STARS, or give the outline of a much bigger and more complex story, as in GEORGE, FRED & ME. The lyrics juxtapose meanings and images in an unexpected way. Dying dogs and Shakespeare-quotes pop up here and there, planes crash, and comfort is found in stories where time itself collapses.
