Incubus is a five-man band based in Calabasas, California. Members include Brandon Boyd (vocals and percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Ben Kenney (bass), Jose Pasillas II (drums) and DJ Chris Kilmore (turntables). Former members of the band include Gavin Koppel (a.k.a. DJ Lyfe) (turntables) and Alex Katunich (a.k.a. Dirk Lance) (bass). The band’s name may seem a peculiar choice to fans, as an incubus is a type of demon that, in mythological lore, comes in the night and has sex with women while they are sleeping; it seduces them in their dreams The story behind the name is that the band needed to think of a name hours before their first show and, after a few failed choices, Mike looked in a dictionary and chose “Incubus” almost at random. Mike says that the name was chosen because it sounded silly; Brandon holds that it was chosen because they were teenagers and the definition had the word “sex” in it. “We really didn’t want to rape women in their sleep. But, we were fifteen and it seemed harmless to us then, and we never changed it,” says the band. Incubus has also tried to cover their tracks by stating that they got the name from a plant in South America that produces mind-altering chemicals. However, the fabled Incubus plant does not actually exist.

Incubus has released six albums and two EP’s to date.

There are six other lesser-known bands also named Incubus:

but this is kind of a different strokes for different folks conversation. I was mostly just trying to explain to tomekmdebski what alternative music actually was. Because he seemed to not know. If he isn't thrilled about the previous 2 albums it's understandable. They change their sound all the time. They're bound to lose some fans over it.

A crow left is up there. I think the only reason I like it less is because I miss dirks bass playing. Because as Garbagemx36 said, they never played funk. Really, there were only some funky songs on fungus amongus and maybe a handful in some other places. But dirk slapped some funky basslines in all their albums giving them an overall sound I really could enjoy a lot more than I could listening to music without him. But they have always continued to change and never allowed themselves to be pigeonholed, regardless of the fact that light grenades was lyrically lacking. So I can't quite agree with tomekmdebski about them sounding the same or needing a change. Because they've always done quite the opposite of sounding the same. A crow left has a much more political undertone and light grenades is much softer than a crow left. Probably the softest album they've done. There is no similarity other than the invisible lines that trace back to remind you your listening to the same band.

Dear Garbagemx36, the fact that ACLOFTM is the best in your opinion shouldn't be a factor in this discusion, just to back me up I listened to the last two albums and can't escape the feeling that they are raw, distorted. Whille Make yourself and Morning view have this vibe, cohesion, they are smooth, but don't get me wrong I love their music Agoraphobia is one of the best songs ever, Dig is flawless... it's just I have high expectations towars these guys and what I realy wish for is A CHANGE!!! A crow left of the murder and Light grenades are very alike.

tomekmdebski have you even heard Crow Left of the Murder? it's one of their best albums. wishing for them to be "funky" again is ridiculous considering they were only ever "funky" on a handful of songs to begin with. they've expanded musically: you on the other hand obviously haven't. the only fault with light grenades is, yes, the lyrics. MUSICALLY though, they're still top notch.

The third is expected to be here late 2010 early 2011. what ? alternative refers to the bass player? which one plays the least important role? ben or dirk? And a musical genre can't refer to a specific person in a band it's an entire sub division of music. In other words what you are saying is you think they're not as good since dirk left. And no love hurts does not sound better lyrics wise. Don't assume just because I'm a girl I would think that. I study the fuck out of the shit they write. So don't be stereotypical. Their lyrics on their most recent album are nothing compared to their previous efforts. In my opinion anyways. I will agree with you on that.

The third one is undoubtfully coming, and alternative in this case refers to the bass player who seams to play the least important role, they were alternative on Morning but they kept the ballance, which they didn't do on the last two efforts, of course you girls would love them, love hurts sounds so much better than make yourself lyricswise... for you!

and there also has only been 2 albums since morning view. A Crow Left of the Murder and Light Grenades. I don't think you have your Incubus facts quite straight.

I disagree. They were alternative on morning view as well. Funk was mostly only fungus amongus. Alternative rock is just a term for bands with a non conformist attitude towards music. Which this band thankfully has.
