Waving Flags will come as little surprise to anyone already familiar with British Sea Power. In fact it will come as no surprise to people unfamiliar with them too: this type of anthemic, grand, melodramatic rock has been done before—and arguably better—by other, more commercially successful, artists, and BSP themselves.
The Futureheads' new song, Broke Up The Time, is a return to the energetic, upbeat, jumping-about-like-a-loony rock of their self-titled début, after the slower, more-thoroughly-considered style of News And Tributes. It's still not as good as Decent Days And Nights or Meantime—no weird time signatures or sideways shifts, and the vocal harmonies are a bit thin on the ground. It's a bit like a livelier version of Help Us Out (an Area B-side).
Ohhh! Waiting For by Peter Gelderblom is that generic nightclub remix of By the Way. …
