Why can it not be both noise AND music? Have you ever stood upon a glacier and heard the song it sings while calving?

the distinction between noise and music is artificial. even in recordings like this, the common elements of "music" (melody, rhythm) exist, but require the listener to seek them out.

this lives somewhere between avant-garde and noise, leaning dangerously close to the latter. Brilliance of artist notwithstanding, there is really no way to rationalize intellectually or theoretically: if it walks like noise, quacks like noise, sounds like noise, it must be noise.

Early fascinated by John Cage, there have been astonishing developments I'm only now discovering. Led by March 2010 New Yorker's Alex Ross on Xenakis, I couldn't wait to hear this.
