IAMX is the solo musical project of Chris Corner (of Sneaker Pimps). Corner has repeatedly said that IAMX is very different to his actual, real-life personality and is a kind of quasi “act”. Whether an act or not, IAMX’s music is primarily concerned with subjects such as outlandish sex, death, narcotic intoxication, bisexuality, obsession, alienation and vague allusions to politics.

With the European marketplace going crazy for his blend of dramatic , darkness-infused pop, and intricately-constructed indie dance, IAMX… read more

great answer! thank you for that [: think i'll just stick with my UK CD then- suppose it's kind of cool that there are two different versions even if this one has a lot of problems- i think i have the american? version of the alternative- least i know spit it out sounds much better on one version that the other.. never heard alternative versions of the songs on kingdom of welcome addiction though that would be good- great album that one i think!

music people - more bass driven but very muddy sounding, extra squiggly noises added to the outro/utopia - lots of changes. verse instrumentation different, funkier. first chorus stripped down. rest of choruses have extra synth lines./volatile times - replaced with the (imo superior) single version, so much more upbeat and industrialy/whispers - no obvious changes save for longer fadeout/bernadette - very similar, bit more beat-driven. sounds like a demo imo/dance - no obvious changes/avalanches - no obvious changes from vinyl version/cold red light - edited down by a full minute but otherwise much the same. like a radio edit./asylum - no obvious changes/commanded - basically the same but fadeout is a full minute longer. not an improvement imo!/beautiful town - bit shorter but much same/christopher - denser, more atmospheric production. extra synth lines and such/volatile times again - this is more-or-less the original version but more upbeat. also better than the original i think!

There's a fair few differences, although if I'm honest as a whole the US version of the album sounds a lot worse than the UK/EU version. Some of the remixing sounds very muddy and unfinished, and the whole album is even more heavily compressed than the original; there's lots of distortion, particularly noticeably on Avalanches - it's a piano ballad, how do manage to distort that?! It's interesting to hear; I've got multiple versions of all his albums save for Metanoia, just because it helps keep them fresh.

i have the uk/european version of volatile times on CD and even though it's probably my least favourite of his albums i still enjoy most of it - was wondering though does anyone know if there is much difference between the version i have and the US version that i've seen online apart from a bonus track and them being ordered differently? Cheers [:
