The name “IAM” is an acronym for “Improvised Art Music”. Taken as a phrase, it implies both self-existence, and that existence being at the present moment. Both meanings describe the essence of IAM: an ensemble dedicated to calling up the Muse that exists in the Moment, using unrehearsed improvisation to form the basis for composing; bringing to life a piece that had no existence before the present time, but was sitting in some unknown place waiting to be heard.
