I Spy

There are at least two bands with the name I Spy:

1: I Spy, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan (and originally called “Clump”) made Winnipeg their home in 1994. For the next two years, they made themselves living legends in the hardcore scene until they called it a day in the summer of ‘96. (Todd the Rod now plays in Propagandhi.)

Besides being one of the funnier cast of characters in existence to thrash audiences into the ground with their raw, full throttle recordings and ever rawer, fuller-throttle live shows , you also got some of the most sincere, “lump in the throat, this planet stinks and we gotta figure out how to change it but we gotta keep thrashing too” words ever put to paper. Straight from the heart, spot-on politics and raging melodic hardcore delivered with a sense of humour not unlike that of a troubled 10-year old who needs her/his mouth washed out with a stiff bar of Nature Clean.

Taken from

2: A dutch pop band who recorded two albums: ‘The Crystal Fire’ and ‘Kite’. Their highest chart hit was ‘The International Feel’ from the first album. In 2007 members of I Spy and Weekend At Waikiki joined forces to form a new band called Radio Orange. More info at

Revenge of the Little Shits is the best album ever [2]. Totally agree!

I Spy, along with Born Against were probably the first Hardcore Punk bands I got into. This band was so killer. Odd song structures, insane drumming, quality lyrics, total energy. Everything.

The Canadian I Spy were the greatest pop punk band ever. Someone convince them to do a reunion tour.

I Spy was unreal live. Anyone within 20 of the stage was almost guaranteed to get showered with spittle. They were intense.

There is not nearly enough love for this band on this website. Or in general.

I only know them as a dutch band with nice beatle-esque songs, and made two albums in the eighties (The Crystal Fire and Kite). Some members have joined forces with members of Weekend at Waikiki to the band Radio Orange. They are working on an album at this moment.
