Kitty the Lion began life as the singer-songwriter Anna Meldrum, reared at the seaside on a diet of folk and pop. In this cub stage, Anna toured the open mics and small venues of Glasgow with her acoustic guitar, and sensible shoes because Glasgow is a wet city and cats hate water.
The Savings and Loan formed in Glasgow in 2004, playing songs touched by two of that city's obsessions: drink and religion. The core of the band is Martin Donnelly and Andrew Bush, chequered veterans of the Glasgow underground scene with bands such as Eska, De Rosa and The Sky At Night, augmented from time to time by a cluster of friends on strings, brass and pedal steel.
