Hugo Wolf (March 13, 1860 – February 22, 1903) was an Austrian composer of Slovene origin, particularly noted for his art songs, or Lieder. He brought to this form a concentrated expressive intensity which was unique in late Romantic music, somewhat related to that of the Second Viennese School in concision but utterly unrelated in technique.

    In my opinion this man follows the line of Lieder composer's beggining by Schubert and Brahms. Wolf and Mahler are, for me, the biggest lieder composer's in the Late-Romanticism but Strauss is very interesting too. Strauss is most knowm for Orchestral works and Operas., I guess.

    Nobody likes lieder, so it's not surprising he gets no attention. I wouldn't consider him in the top 5 lieder writers, but he's good.
