But he was simply made for this. He captured the essence of Middle Earth. The LOTR soundtracks are irreplacable and precious. Hobbit is not as excellent - but maybe it's me not living so many years with this new music and letting in inhabit innermost corners of my being.

No, music for Lord of the Rings couldn't be better. James Horner in 2001 wasn't able to compose anything more original and unique, altough he's a good composer.

I really would like to know how The Lord of the Rings would have sounded, if James Horner accepted the offer to score the films. Howard Shore did an incredible job but i think James Horner is the overall better composer so it might have been even better.

Just saw the Battle of the Five armies yesterday. As always Shore's music was one of the main delights of the Middle Earth experience!

Would love to hear him expand and compose symphonies based on Tolkien's world. Imagine how divine his interpretation of Ainulindalë or the lands of Valinor, Beleriand and Numenor would sound!

I adore hearing The Fellowship of the Ring's brief appearance in Courage and Wisdom, it is so fitting for the scene as well. ♡♡ (I got major Thranduil + Legolas feels!) [2] The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies score is brilliant [3]

Can people stop uploading the extended edition OST covers for the score please? If you want to add those covers, do so for the actually EXTENDED EDITION OST, not the regular one. Extended Edition is not the same as Regular Edition.

Yeah, that's the "Tauriel and Kili" theme that you mean. The Fellowship of the Ring allusion is at 3:40 in the track.

In Courage and Wisdom, I cannot hear the Fellowship Theme (unless I just wasn't paying attention). I can hear the Feast of Starlight chorus though from about half way through.

  • patryxdeth

BTW, does anyone know why the "Misty mountains" theme so prominent in the first Hobbit film never made the slightest appearance again? I know it was composed by someone else, but surely there must have been a way to re-use it...?

  • patryxdeth

"Courage and Wisdom": The "Fellowship" theme? How and why is this possible?

    December 2014
  • patryxdeth

Yes, I also love the juxtaposition of Sauron against Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf (where is Saruman???) in "Guardians of the Three". The whole piece seems rather un-confrontational, however. Hardly like the White Counsel "driving the enemy from Dol Guldur". I wonder what we'll get to see.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies score is brilliant, especially Fire and Water, and Guardians of the Three! Anyone else love the Sauron theme and the Rivendell theme playing off against each other in that one? Beautiful!
