Biography
Howard Phillips Lovecraft (20 August 1890 - 15 March 1937), a.k.a., H.P. Lovecraft (not to be confused with the psychedelic rock band which took its name from the author), is probably best known as a writer of weird fiction, though some believe his voluminous correspondence to be his greatest accomplishment.
Many of his horror stories have been filmed and recorded as audio books, radio theatre, and movie adaptations. Lovecraft is most famous for the 'Cthulhu mythos,' which August Derleth, a publisher and editor of Lovecraft's works, is largely responsible for promoting; however, Derleth also introduced quite a few errors into the mythos as he took liberties with Lovecraft's material.
Many musicians, musical groups, and other authors have been inspired by Lovecraft, including Metallica, Neil Gaiman, John Carpenter, Black Sabbath, Robert Bloch, and the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. For more examples, check the Last.FM radio channel "lovecraft".
