Named after the romantic poet, Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), the band from Wuppertal, Germany, operated between 1970 and 1981, producing, by their own account, “rock music, songs, improvisations on cello, violin, flute, electric and acoustic guitars, electric piano, organ, bass and drums, complex compositions and suspended arrangements, music that forces you to listen, music that doesn’t shy away from twelve-tone cadenzas, that includes traditional elements such as folk or classical music, that touches on electronics or incorporates jazz pleasings.

Hi everybody! nice to meet you. I founded Hölderlin/Hoelderlin 1970 with my brother Jochen v. Grumbkow. First we tried to work with the German poet Hölderlin's poems, Berthold Brechts lyrics and H.C. Artman's poems, then we decided to keep the Hölderlin-image (crazy artist, hidden in a tower by a cruel king....but he wasn't crazy, he was to wise and revolutionary thinking for his time and therefore politically dangerous ....). We had to change it, when we signed a new contract with SPIEGELEI-Label/Intercord. They wanted us to be an "international act ", so we had to change the German Lyrics and of course the name into English (I think that was the first mistake we made....)....sooooo, Hölderlin became HOELDERLIN. Any questions?

This is another example of the technical shortcomings of It's well known that they can't handle multiple bands with the same name, and now we see that they can't handle multiple names for the same band. I also find the tactic of using a fake artist image with the (quite erroneous) message about bad tags to be condescending and annoying.

The name Hölderlin was only used for their very first album. They changed to Hoelderlin for their second album and all the others that followed.

I think should respect an artist's change of name. Hoelderlin/Hölderlin is not a case of incorrect tagging !

Actually, Hölderlin is the mis-tag. This is the correct tag for the band
