Biography

Richard Hickox is one of Britain’s most highly regarded conductors. Amongst the honours he has received are the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award (twice - in 1995, and in 1998) and the Association of British Ochestras Award (1998), three Gramophone awards, the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis, the Olivier Award and a Grammy (for the Royal Opera House’s recording of Peter Grimes.)

Indeed, his Britten productions have helped seal his reputation, as well as his performances of the work of other English composers such as Vaughan Williams and Percy Grainger. However, his international standing is undoubted: he is music director of the Spoleto Festival, and has worked as guest conductor with Tokyo’s New Japan Philharmonic, the Russian National Orchestra, Swedish Radio, Residentie Orchestra Den Haag, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Berliner Symphoniker, NDR Symphony Hamburg, WDR Symphony Cologne, Camerata Academica Salzburg; and in America the Detroit Symphony, Washington’s National Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
