Kiila is a bunch of people who love songs and sounds. Kiila was founded by Niko-Matti Ahti and Sami Sänpäkkilä in 1993 in Ulvila, Finland. The band first worked as a duo and played their first show in Pori, a city near by, in 1995. Since that Kiila has shifted through many phases, seen many events and had many members.
Finland is the epicenter of collective music making. Under the name Maniacs Dream, members of Finnish bands such as Avarus, Fricara Pacchu, Kemialliset Ystävät, and more come together to create blown out free rock.
There are two known bands called Avarus 1. Avarus was formed in Tampere (Finland) year 2001 by a bunch of people from Tampere. They are considered to be the most important group of the finnish free-folk scene.
Pekko Käppi is a player of Jouhikko, the ancient Finnish-Karelian bowed lyre, in all-improvised settings and traditional folk songs. Crossing bowed strings with soft locomotive rhythms, grainy drones and circling, buzzing patterns with otherwordly vocals chasing the arc of his bow with beautiful melodies.
