Heavy D & the Boyz was an American hip hop group led by Heavy D. The Boyz were G-Wiz (born Glen Parrish), "Trouble" T. Roy (born Troy Dixon), and DJ Eddie F (born Edward Ferrell). The group maintained a sizable audience in the United States through most of the 1990s.

Heavy D was born Dwight Errington Myers on 24 May 1967 in Jamaica. His family moved to Mount Vernon, New York when he was a young child.

  • Sometimes I think that hip-hop fans pay dues to late rappers out of necessity rather than an actual appreciation for how great they were. Heavy D was an exceptionally gifted mc with flows for days and one of hip-hop's most important links to New Jack Swing. Another old school pioneer wasn't given the props he deserves and the era continues to be overlooked and downplayed in terms of quality and importance - often by so-called hip-hop fans themselves, who think that shit only became listenable or worthwhile in the '90s. It's a shame...
