Hearts of Space : slow music for fast times

HEARTS of SPACE began as a San Francisco late night radio show produced by Stephen Hill in 1973, went national on public radio in 1983, and to everyone’s amazement, grew to almost 300 stations. HOS added an independent record label in 1984, ultimately releasing almost 150 albums of space, ambient, contemplative and world music.

In 2001 Hearts of Space launched an online music streaming service with over 800 one hour programs — The Hearts of Space Archive. That same year they sold the record label to Valley Entertainment. While Hearts of Space still help produce new recordings for the label, they no longer run it day to day. The HOS radio program is still heard weekly on over 220 public stations in the U.S., daily on XM Satellite Radio Ch. 77, and online at the Hearts of Space site at
