Biography

There are two bands with the name HB.

1) One is a Christian band from Forssa, Finland. Formed in 2002, they started playing rock but have since developed a more massive, heavy metal sound, with orchestral/symphonic backgrounds, and have always had a female lead vocalist. HB has grown to be one of the most popular Christian groups in Finland, and with their first English album Frozen Inside released in 2008, they’ve also had some attention from abroad.

Current line-up:

Johanna Aaltonen - vocals
Antti Niskala - keys, vocals
Samuel Mäki-Kerttula - drums
Tuomas Kannisto- bass
Sofia Ylinen - guitar
Bob - guitar

3) The other band called HB (Hard Black) is a Japanese instrumental post-rock band that was formed in December 2004 in Tokyo. They have released one mini-album called Hard Black on the 8th August 2007 with Zankyo records.

The bands consists of three members (all female):
Maki999 - drums & glockenspiel
Muupy - didgeridoo, percussion & glockenspiel
Tucchie - upright bass

Their music features complex rhythm with bass and glockenspiel loops on top of ‘polyrhythm’ constructed by drums and percussion. Their live performance has been attracting a great deal of attention with a jam-based development fusing electronica, dub and minimalism, which is always thrilling and spontaneous. Their attempt to ‘rhythm’ never stops!!

I saw the video with Miia singing Battle of God too. To be honest, I didn't think there was much of a difference. I don't care much for that song though, regardless of who sings it. Not one of their stronger works, and not one that's notable for vocals. I'll be interested to hear how she handles some of their other material.

Johanna has a really awesome voice and it's really sad that she left the band. I heard Miia singing the song "Battle of God" and her voice just doesn't fit, even when I also like her:(

http://untombed.com/archives/7702 So Johanna is no longer with the band. It's a shame because I loved her singing. I think Miia Rautkoski will do a good job as the new singer though. Also, they're making an English version of Pääkallonpaikka, which is awesome news.

Apparently the next album is going to being acoustic and will deal with "painful subjects" I was hoping they'd do an English Pääkallonpaikka first, but hey, sounds interesting.

Since there's been no sign of an English version of Pääkallonpaikka being forthcoming, I finally broke down and bough it. It's FANTASTIC! By far the best thing they've done, and it's fast becoming one of my favorite albums ever. I really hope it gets translated some day.

So far as I know, the lyrics are not worshiping the man-based religion, but Jesus Himself. Religion is flawed because humans are flawed. A relationship with Jesus, within or outside of religious boundaries, is the point. And the qualities He represents are the complete opposite of poison and evil. How can you hate love and redemption? Thank God my favorite genre of music has the capacity to encompass all topics, including His love. Plus, they're Finnish! Finnish Christian metal = win.
