Version 6

A highly influential band, Hawkwind are known for heavy experimentation, innovation and as some of the early pioneers of electronica. Starting out in the late 60’s as a psychedelic/space rock band, Hawkwind went on to become one of the earliest and hardest bands of the 70’s. The band maintained a successful following through the period of punk and new wave, cited by Joy Division bassist Peter Hook as an early influence. Their album covers and lyrics invoke fantastic sci-fi and sword & sorcery imagery and they produced some of the tightest grooves ever heard in a band. Hawkwind also featured Lemmy Kilmister, who went on to start Motorhead, which was the name of a Hawkwind song.
