W.T.F. just bought the xenon codex and space bandits, forced myself to listen to them for a week ! not one memorable song both albums seem to be extensions of bits of songs they used to put in between there proper songs. loved everything up to church of hawkwind, but these albums sound like a band with no ideas and to the reason for posting this they've just released an album called onwards any point in buying it or is it the same as the afor-mentioned monstrosities ????? help please

Oh,ps: fuck this stupid debate Hawkind vs Pink Floyd..both bands were/are great and gave an importat contribute to music and still give us beautiful emotions and if you prefer one or another it's only up to you, your ears and your feelengs and person taste.. i listen to Pink Floyd from longer time than Hawkind and i like their music a lot but i currently maybe prefer (jus for a bit) Hawkind, but really...who cares?? Both bands rules,in their own (pretty different) way..that's it.

When I listen to the song "Silver Machine" hard to believe that it provides the vocals the same guy who nine years later sings "Ace Of Spades".

The idea of things being similar but different seems to escape so many people. Not everything is comparable or needs to be compared. Get over it. Enjoy the music, simple as that.

I can't believe the debate below. It's the sort of discussion we had at high school! (Showing my age now...) The music of both bands still connects to new audiences.

  • IagoHC1993

I like both Hawkwind and Pink Floyd, but Hawkwind is amazing my friend.. I aways have flashbacks when I listen to it ^^

    August 2012
  • MyLittlePonyFIM

The fact is, Pink Floyd's work clearly had/has much better lasting value then Hawkwind's, as evident by the fact that Floyd still connect with new audiences each time. Who the hell do Hawkwind connect with now accept a few old nostalgia freaks?. Pink Floyd have gone on to become legendary while Hawkwind have simply gone on to become known as "Lemmy's former band"

What you are missing is "good musicianship" is not equal to "good music." You are certainly not obligated to like Hawkwind, but you listened to two of their better albums in terms of testing the waters. If you didn't like In Search of Space because it was too jammy, I'd recommend Warrior on the Edge of time as they focused more on songwriting on that rather than gobbling LSD and jamming for hours. I didn't love them on the first listen, I'd recommend giving it another shot at some point: But they are not for everyone, that's for sure.

  • sambosonoframbo

I dig the idea, and gave them a good listen, but I got the feeling that their albums were just lacking good musicianship. I listened to "In Search of Space" and "Warrior on the Edge of Time". Is there something i'm missing, or a better album to start off with? Sorry I know im gonna come off sounding like an ass

Pink Floyd reminds me of Hawkwind. But just not QUITE worthy of licking their shoes. Because when I say "reminds me of", that always means "totally sucks compared to".

I visited Ladbrooke Grove last week. I HAD to purchase a very old worn LP of X In Search Of Space just because I was there. Big smile on my face walking around thinking of Hawkwind's origins.
