It’s hard to believe that no one has even attempted to write a bio on these guys yet. From what I’ve gathered thus far, Hatfield & the North are a Canterbury Scene mish-mash of sorts, featuring members from Delivery, Caravan & Matching Mole, which makes perfect sense in this case because Robert Wyatt was the man behin the mole, so to speak. Their name, incidentally, came from Machine Molle, which I believe is French for Soft Machine, who, coincidentally enough, Wyatt also drummed for before the accident that cost him his walking abilities.

Though an accident of those proportions (Wyatt fell from a 4th story window) would sideline most ordinary musicians, it instead seemed to invigorate him, leading him to do some of his most extraordinary solo work. Some of you may know his more recent work/endeavors with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, on whose latest two live DVDs Wyatt appears as a special guest.
