Harvey Danger was a rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1992, and rose to prominence in 1998 with the single “Flagpole Sitta”, from their debut album “Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone?”. The band released a new album in 2005, Little by Little…, after the five year hiatus that followed the release of their sophomore album “King James Version”. Harvey Danger has a devoted cult following but is widely considered to be a one-hit wonder, mainly due to limited mainstream radio airplay and a lack of decent record deals.

The band is little known in Europe, for the same reasons but also because the band focuses on selling themselves in America (especially Seattle), thus making it very difficult for fans to get albums in Europe. The original drummer Evan Sult moved to Chicago and now drums in the band Bound Stems. He has been replaced by Michael Welke, formerly of the band No. 226.
The single ‘’Flagpole Sitta’’ is also the theme song to the popular British comedy show ‘Peep Show’.

As of May 28, 2009, they announced on their website they’ve called it quits. According to them their decision was mutual and they feel the band has run its course.

As much as I love the band and all of their material and want them to be well known, I feel like everyone who doesn't wish to dig deeper than 'Flagpole Sitta' doesn't deserve to know about their greatness. Yes that is a snob remark, I don't care.

I lived in Seattle in the late 90's and 2000's. They were really well-known in the area, and I was kind of surprised that they were relatively unknown outside the Northwest (other than Flagpole Sitta). 'Where Have All The Merrymakers Gone?" is up there in my list of favorite albums.

'Underrated' Well, most peeps just don't understand Radio Play and lack of promotion to mainstream audiences. At the time, the powers that be determined there was only 1 great song by this band in a sea of great songs and they didn't play much of anything else by them (which was less great, in a mainstream sense.) The Internet has changed a few things as far as listening habits (With the viral video/song phenomenon) but not necessarily in the way record companies promote artists in a sea of thousands of artists. It's still hard to shine. We've only become more fragmented in our listening taste, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
