Biography
They released three cassette singles by independence production and sold all 1,000 copies of them at independent record stores in and around Tokyo. Hartfield was later signed to Vinyl Junkie Recordings. They participated in a compilation promotional CD Way of a Ray which was released from VINYL JUNKIE Recordings.
Hartfield released their long-awaited debut album True Color,True Lie on 24th October 2003. This album is released simultaneously in Japan on Vinyl Junkie recordings and in the United States through Clairecords. Scott Cortez of Loveliescrushing, Astrobrite, Star was responsible for mixing the album.
In 2004 Hartfield released their 6 song mini album called L.I.B.R.A.on 18th June 2004. This album also included Hartfield’s only two known music videos; She Knows, and Today Forever. In 2006 they toured the east coast of the US with Chicago’s Airiel, playing with such artists as A Place to Bury Strangers, Alcian Blue, Stellarscope, along with playing at the Pop Noise Festival in Philadelphia.
Upon returning to Japan, Hartfield was looking for a new label to support their future albums and tours. As fans awaited the next release by Hartfield, no news surfaced, and the future of the band went on hiatus. It is unconfirmed whether or not Hartfield will create a new record. Their website www.hartfieldweb.com, is no longer up, leading many to speculate that the band has possibly broken up.
