Biography

Hartfield was formed by Takateru kagawa (Guitar/Vocal). Later that year, Yukari Tanaka (Guitar/Vocal) joined the band officially. They started playing gigs with a support bassist and drummer on December 2000. They participated in a compilation CD album named Seven Winters which was released from curse of my bloody valentine.

They released three cassette singles by independence production and sold all 1,000 copies of them at independent record stores in and around Tokyo. Hartfield was later signed to Vinyl Junkie Recordings. They participated in a compilation promotional CD Way of a Ray which was released from VINYL JUNKIE Recordings.

Hartfield released their long-awaited debut album True Color,True Lie on 24th October 2003. This album is released simultaneously in Japan on Vinyl Junkie recordings and in the United States through Clairecords. Scott Cortez of Loveliescrushing, Astrobrite, Star was responsible for mixing the album.

In 2004 Hartfield released their 6 song mini album called L.I.B.R.A.on 18th June 2004. This album also included Hartfield’s only two known music videos; She Knows, and Today Forever. In 2006 they toured the east coast of the US with Chicago’s Airiel, playing with such artists as A Place to Bury Strangers, Alcian Blue, Stellarscope, along with playing at the Pop Noise Festival in Philadelphia.

Upon returning to Japan, Hartfield was looking for a new label to support their future albums and tours. As fans awaited the next release by Hartfield, no news surfaced, and the future of the band went on hiatus. It is unconfirmed whether or not Hartfield will create a new record. Their website www.

    True Color, True Lie is flawless, L.I.B.R.A. will probably grow on me. Such a great band. It's a shame that they seem to have just disappeared.

    I've bought Hartfield's CDs and I found their CDs while I was in Japan. It's a shame, but they do not include lyrics with the CD itself (And this is usually the place that you find lyrics, as it is illegal to post lyrics of songs online in Japan). So it looks like Hartfield's lyrics will forever be unknown, but some things shouldn't be explained or known, the mystery is always there.

    "Reason" is definitely one of my favorite shoegaze tracks EVER. Didn't think so many other people thought the same, lol. I read somewhere on youtube that they split up, but that was just speculation they admitted, and everyone else says that they have no idea what happened to them. A shame, as they most likely did depart. Another album would be great. I find myself listening them very often.
