Wake up everybody no more sleepin' in bed
No more backward thinkin' time for thinkin' ahead
The world has changed so very much from what it used to be
There's so much hatred war and poverty

I guess the word has changed but in many ways not enough since this was a big hit in early 1976. Went to #1 on R&B charts and #12 on Pop Charts.

Excelent lyrics. The wakeup music in the cellphone. But I use the version recorded from The Roots.

On a city bus in Minneapolis one morning, I heard an older woman singing along to this song as it played on her headphones. I couldn't help but turn and nod in appreciation. She told me that she woke her children up with this song every day and is now doing the same with her grandchildren. It must be working, because (I'd noticed on previous trips along that bus route at that time of day) her granddaughter was among the most vivacious and self-possessed children I've ever seen. I really enjoyed the image of them--older woman and young girl--dancing to that song as a way of getting ready for each new day.
