The collaborations between Brian Eno and Harold Budd began upon completing Budd’s first noticed ambient record entitled The Pavilion of Dreams. Two years after the success of Budd’s musicianship and Eno’s excellent production on the album, the two combined forces and created Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror, the follow up to Ambient 1: Music for Airports which was the first album to ever coin the term of “ambient music”. Both Eno and Budd afterward experimented with other ambient musicians and met up again to record The Pearl in 1984.

To Pokrishka: I recently had the same problem with Last.fm scrobbling their music improperly. If you haven't fixed the problem yourself by now, you just edit the "Contributing Artist" column from "Harold Budd; Brian Eno" to "Harold Budd/Brian Eno." That semi-colon can be a killer ;]

In my opinion, The Pearl is definitely their best collaboration album. I enjoy the sampled sounds and the overall selection of timbre and other experimental factors that the album displays. Plateaux of Mirrors is amazing as well, but it just seems ordinary compared to the deep layers of The Pearl.
