About this album

Released in 1984 after the departure of Nick Heyward, Paint and Paint retains all the qualities of musicianship evident on the Pelican West album. However, the song-writing is just not as good, and lacks much of what made Pelican West so appealing. Whereas Pelican West was catchy, original, youthful, innocent and upbeat from start to finish, Paint and Paint, which was deliberately aimed at a more mature audience, is hit and miss by comparison. Haircut 100’s playing style isn’t very suited to slower songs such as “Where do you run to now?”, but there are strong shades of Pelican West in some other songs, such as “So Tired”. A mixed bunch, then, but Paint and Paint is definitely worth getting hold of, if you can find it!
