HEY!TONAL is an experimental band comprising of Kevin Shea (Storm & Stress, Get the People, Talibam!, Coptic Light, People…), Mitch Cheney (Rumah Sakit, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Species Being, Greenness…), Dave Davidson (Maps & Atlases, Cast Spells), Alan Mills (CHIISAI-OTO) and Theo Katsaounis (Weather, Locks, Joan of Arc, ZZZZ…). The sound of this ensemble combines in unconventional fashion to whip up a batch of deliciously accomplished mathy jazz-rock snacks. The results share common ground with both Health and Don Caballero, via a novel route.

The band’s self-titled debut HEY!TONAL is a striking record, full of delicate incongruities hidden in the music, happy accidents meticulously given purpose during mixing, drums sounds and guitars intertwining. The overall impression is of some oblique explanation to an unsolved mystery.

What an impressive line up of members. The self-titled album is great.

Total math rock GEM. I've got quite a bit of math rock in my library but have to say that after a decade of listening, these guys have to share some of the same Don Caballero DNA. A little more "jazzy" than cab but still contains that awesome edge that separate it from "downed a bottle of Robotussin and then found my Fender" to "Whoa, that's awesome!"
