Probably one of the most beautiful pieces written by Gustav Mahler. The major theme is also known as the Alma (his wife and later muse of artistic Vienna) theme. On a musical level the admiration for the Wagnerian principles of endless melodies is incorporated in a brilliant fashion.   • I wouldn’t go as far as to say that MUSIKLUBBER was soulless, but I am a bit astonished that he doesn’t “feel” this. It’s not exactly reserved, it’s and outpouring of expression and if there were to be a criticism it might be called “overemotional”. Compared to Haydn, this is screaming and sobbing. But both have their place, in my humble opinion. OK I lied I know it all and I am not humble about it!
  • This looks like this might be the von Karajan reading, the filler material matches. It’s quite nice, whoever is doing it. Mahler’s music is not for people in a hurry!

  • HHMM... I'm not really feeling it. I feel it is supposed to be great, but it's not having that effect on me. But I'm still listening, so maybe I'll be surprised. No. 15 minutes have passed already. Not feeling it.
