Same As It Never Was. Du bon funk, quelques breaks, du gros groove, des passages un peu plus soul, ce fut un réel plaisir de faire l'ouverture de ce concert.
21 Apr 2009, 23:26 by PrincipeAzulEvery single act i saw was in top form! not a single bad note, not a single flub, not a single moment of apprehension by any of the performers, and for me, during the whole weekend no more than a few moments spent w/o being high, drunk or rolling haha
let's do this
In order of appearance:
Gui Boratto (Beautiful Life was beautiful!)
Steve Aoki is a fuckin rockstar
Buraka Som Sistema kick M.I.A.'s ass. plus those MCs, especially the female, have CRAZY moves. heaven in a tent.
Beirut was magical. played ALL my favorite songs.
Bajofondo is not my taste in music but their passion was exceptional. they were so inviting. and the accordian player was HOT.
Paul McCartney. walking out friday night to a crowd of thousands singing the na na na part of Hey Jude was positively breathtaking.
caught the end of the Liars, who made me cry
Surkin is a chainsmoking, recordsmashing FIEND
i sat outside the tent of Tinariwen and just closed my eyes and transcended
Fleet Foxes was also transcendent. those voices? miraculous

Now the main thing I would love to know is: why the hell is a soundsystem THAT GOOD located in such a stupid place? North Greenwich is a nightmare to get to (especially when the Jubilee is closed) as demonstrated by the sparse crowd that met us when we arrived. Less 'Kompakt Party', more 'school disco'. But the sound, oh the sound. Two beautiful, curving racks of speakers ascend to the ceiling either side of the stage, beneath each of which lurks a behemoth of a sub. For me, it rivalled Fabric room 1 in clarity and elegance. Not as loud, of course, but given our exhaustion we didn't really mind. And for a label like Kompakt, it's all about the detail.
Jonas Bering was in full flow when we arrived, looking suave behind his laptop and playing that kind of blissful trance/techno that Kompakt made their name with. I've grown a bit tired of this sort of stuff on record…
26 Dec 2007, 03:58 by MityaIn the mp3 era, I take a much more empirical view of music than I used to: what I listen to must be good, and what I listen to more, must be better - at least in terms of these kinds of lists. One caveat: although last.fm generates these lists automatically, it's not perfect - if you play the same song five times in a row on your iPod, it only gets counted once - so I've tweaked things a bit. (You also can't filter by release year, if that's important to you - I've starred non-2007 releases). Where possible, I've added tracks to my playlist, for your listening ease.
1. Regina Spektor - Better* - I saw some criticism of this song for it's radio-friendly production, which admittedly strips much away most of Regina Spektor's musical idiosyncracy, but she still shows through in the lyrics. So rag on David Kahne if you want, but the honest truth is that a handful of artists have produced their best work thanks to his knob-twiddling (vis Truth And Soul).
2. Stars - Window Bird

21 Dec 2007, 20:21 by RiverrunnerIron and Wine -- Boy with a Coin: One of the few artists who consistently writes good lyrics.
LCD Soundsystem -- Get Innocuous: I boycotted the LCD Soundsystem craze for a while but this track is fantastic.
Radiohead -- All I Need: Awesome classic track from the best band since the Beatles.
Gui Boratto -- Beautiful Life: I love minimal techno that isn't depressing...sometimes.
The Field -- Over the Ice: Ecstasy music.
Burial -- Archangel: The best mood music of the year. Also makes me want to try heroin...in a good way.
Dapayk and Padberg -- Black Beauty: Prophetic.
Morgan Packard -- I Think I...: Interesting, sophisticated. A thinking person's track.
Pantha Du Prince -- Saturn Strobe: Dramatic never sounded so good.
Justice -- Waters of Nazareth: A raw and nasty track. I stayed off the Justice bandwagon but this and Stress cut to the bone.
The Tuss -- Synthacon 9: IDM isn't dead.
Battles -- Atlas: Amazingly accessible for being so long and technical.
